If a wheelchair has a roll bar, you know it’s a serious ride

Thursday, Apr 26, 2018

You know we love anything huge on wheels, so in the official category of “Dude, I Want That,” we bring you the Ziesel. It’s a fully electric, made-to-order off-road wheelchair that’s more like an all-terrain tank designed to tear up everything from snow and mud to grass and paved roads. Mattro, the Austrian-based mobility company behind it, specializes in mounting off-road tracks to custom built vehicles for farming and construction.

But der Ziesel is pretty much pure ATV joy, although it can be fitted with a snow plow or mower, too. With a double wishbone suspension system that ensures smooth traction on any surface, the 460-pound Ziesel is powered by a PMS electric disk motor that pumps out 21 horses, 30 pound-feet of torque, and enough power to get you up a 60 percent slope. Thanks to its 6 KWh battery pack, it’s got enough juice to run for about five hours.

Sure, it will run you around 30 grand, but where’s your sense of adventure?
