This Hamilton High Heat Wheel can breathe fire

Tuesday, Jul 31, 2018

A few things you can get away with saying when you make the toughest casters on the planet.

  • Our wheels never sleep. They wait.
  • There are no weapons of mass destruction. Only Hamilton casters.
  • The great wall on Game of Thrones was originally created to keep Hamilton casters out
  • Atlas shrugged, but Hamilton casters won’t.

So, really, this custom Hamilton center flange high heat wheel should come as no surprise. Hamilton engineers designed it to guide 50,000-pound capacity hi-temp carts into the punishing heat of an autoclave for the world’s largest aerospace company. Industrial autoclaves are critical tools for curing high-performance composite aircraft parts that take a licking (read: jet wings).

The wheel shown in the picture is machined from a solid 4140 steel blank and mounted in a special Hamilton No-Offset Kingpinless Swivel Caster with four-position swivel lock and special steering tubes on each side. It’s treated with special high temperature grease, rated up to 752 degrees, so it can pretty much handle the flames of Hades.

The caster posts are removed and the tools are placed in the carts. The zero offset swivel is designed so the casters can rest in turntables. Steer tubes are used to turn each caster so it can go into another section of track and then cool off. The tools are then removed from the carts, the caster parts are replaced, and the part goes on to the next step of production.
