Why is this stealth bomber on everyone’s radar?

Saturday, Nov 19, 2022

What’s cooler than an indestructible plane? One that you don’t see coming, of course.

But on December 2, everyone will finally get to see the first stealth bomber to be unveiled by the US Air Force in the last 34 years. It’s Northrop Grumman’s new B-21 Raider, and it’s being hailed as “the most advanced military aircraft ever built,” capable of “penetrating the toughest defenses to deliver precision strikes anywhere in the world.” The debut of this superweapon cloaked in power, payload and survivability has been highly anticipating in the aerospace world ever since it was first announced back in 2015.

While the B-21’s capabilities are under secret wraps for a few more days, here’s what we know:

  • It will carry conventional as well as nuclear payloads
  • It’s capable of crewed and uncrewed flight
  • It can execute intelligence, surveillance and recon missions
  • It will feature an “open system architecture” that can be easily upgraded in the future
  • It will never need to pound Mountain Dews or Adderall to stay awake

All, hail, the new backbone of the Air Force’s bomber fleet.
