So remember when we shared the exciting news last November about our acquisition of two new state-of-the-art vertical lathes? Hamilton brought in these machines to help us craft even bigger, badder and faster industrial wheels for our customers. Today, we’re showcasing just one example of the fruits of that investment: a custom track wheel we designed for a power transmission product provider.
This custom wheel can be used for a railcar on a galvanizing line—a critical application that demands precision and durability. To meet these needs, we created a wheel with a unique bore size and keyway, tailored specifically to this application. We even invested in special tooling to achieve the wheel’s ultra-smooth surface finish of 62 micro inches.
The wheel itself is made from case-hardened steel, which is ideal for environments where vibrations, shock loads and misalignment are common. Case hardening enhances the steel’s surface hardness without compromising toughness, making it a perfect fit for heavy-duty applications. These wheels can also be further customized, available in either double-flanged of flat-faced configurations, depending on your needs.
