World’s largest building breaks ground in Saudi Arabia

Monday, Nov 25, 2024

As makers of the world’s largest industrial casters, we have a soft spot for engineering marvels that push boundaries. And while we’ve covered a lot of “world’s biggest” headlines over the years, nothing quite compares to this one. It’s called Mukaab, a groundbreaking megastructure in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. If completed as envisioned, it will be one of the largest structures on Earth.

By the numbers
Set to anchor Saudi Arabia’s New Murabba district, the Mukaab (“cube” in Arabic) is a true giant: 400 meters tall, wide and deep. That’s enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings inside. This city-within-a-city will span 19 square kilometers and boast 100,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, and more than 1.4 million square meters of retail and leisure space.

The cool factor
What truly sets the Mukaab apart is its fusion of heritage and cutting-edge tech. The exterior will feature intricate Najdi-inspired designs—a nod to Saudi culture—alongside massive, AI-powered screens reminiscent of the Las Vegas Sphere. Inside? A fully immersive digital wonderland. Expect holographic projections, virtual-reality experiences and a dome that can transport visitors to anywhere in the world.

As Michael Dyke, CEO of the New Murabba Development Company, put it: “You could go to bed in the Serengeti and wake up in New York City.”

Holographic cubes? Why not holographic casters? Rolling disco lights? Speedometer readouts? We’ve got our crack Biz Dev team on the case.
