You can build houses with car tires and even carve them into sculptures. But pile hundreds into an 18-wheeler, and you’ve got art.

Called tire lacing, it’s the most efficient shipping method for new and used wheels. By slanting and stacking them, manufacturers can cram an entire container’s worth of tires into a big rig. It also makes sure they don’t jam or wobble.

Logistics aside, who knew a mound of rubber could be so captivating?
