The new terminator of tuggers: robot dogs

Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Step aside, reindeer. This army of robot dogs can tow that load.

There are simply no words to describe this video, but we’ll try: It’s a pack of four-legged robots hauling a huge truck like it’s a walk in the park. Designed by Google-owned Boston Dynamics, makers of extremely secretive and revolutionary robots, these future overlords of tugging are called SpotMinis and can climb stairs, tackle a wide variety of terrain and carry 31 pounds each. Weighing in at just 66 pounds and standing 2.6 feet high, the SpotMini has a battery life of about 90 minutes, depending on the task. Boston Dynamics says it’s the quietest robot it’s built so far. And dare we say it’s also the eeriest?

The company promises the Mini will be for sale later this year to tackle a range of applications.

And there’s always the Iditarod 2020.
