This is the Mad Max of bike wheels

Wheels. We love ‘em. Can’t get enough of ‘em in any shape or form.

When faced with gliding over an icy lake with a bike, most people would think to invest in some studded tires to get traction, right? That would be too easy for the engineering hack on the popular YouTube science channel The Q. He prefers the challenge of designing something new. So he decided to build a bike with circular saws for wheels.

The step-by-step video shows how he grafts saw wheels onto the bike hubs to fit within the frame and uses the existing brake mounts. On the first try, the saw blades are a little too sharp for the ice, so he welds wider tabs onto each tooth to gain some forward thrust. Watch as he glides over a frozen lake on his icy cycle without a care in the world. It looks like the sort of contraption Wile E. Coyote would build to trap his enemy, Roadrunner.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t fall. One wrong move, and, you know, someone loses a foot.
