Piston heads, rejoice, for the latest superlative supercar

Monday, Oct 24, 2022

It’s not every day you need a halo and helmet to drive your car to work. But if top speed’s your thang, and you’ve got an extra 190 large lying around in addition to your millions, glory can now be yours on the open road.

Meet the sequel to D12, which is being touted as the “fastest street-legal supercar” you can drive today. First introduced by French automaker Delage in 2020, this hybrid beast just got a crazy upgrade with its newly announced topless options: A Speedster, which ditches the Top Gun-style canopy for a raked windshield, and an F1 configuration sporting a mere wind deflector and Formula 1-esque halo driver crash protection shield.

The D12, which can reach a maximum speed of 223 mph, gets its performance from a dual powertrain system. Both are powered by 7.6-liter V12 engines that produce 612-pound-feet of torque at 6,200 rpm and 976 horsepower at 8,2000 rpm. The added electric motors are what make the difference—the Club has a 20-horsepower electric motor, while the GT boasts a 110-horsepower electric motor.

Only 30 of these French hybrids will be made, so put your order in now. Each option will add an extra $190,000 to D12’s cool two mill price tag.

May the G-Force be with you.
