Behold the beast: Hamilton builds largest in-house wheel ever!

Wednesday, Jan 28, 2026

Some of our wheels turn heads. This one could flatten them.

Meet Hamilton’s newest heavy-duty record breaker: a jaw-dropping 28-inch diameter by 16-inch face press-on wheel. This is officially the largest wheel in our standard offering we’ve ever machined start to finish under one roof. It’s a monster in every sense of the word—and we’re just getting started.

While our legendary “Colossus” wheel still holds the all-time size crown of 36 inches by 20 inches, that one needed outsourced muscle to compete. This time, we did it all in-house, from vertical lathe to final press-fit. The result? A beast of a wheel born and bred in Hamilton’s own shop. And when we keep production under one roof, we keep lead times down, stay nimble and deliver faster for customers who don’t have time to wait.

This project gave our shop floor crew plenty to wrestle with, according to our very own Caster & Wheel Team Leader Trey Davis, who plays a crucial role in getting our jobs through the system. Trey explained that machining the massive rim triggered a bit of operatic chatter on the vertical lathe. So we dialed it down a bit—okay, a lot—letting precision take the wheel over brute speed.

Our weld team worked their magic mating the rim plate to the hub and center. Once machined, there was still the small matter of attaching the 85A poly tread. How do you safely hoist and press a rubber ring that’s the size of a monster truck tire? Very carefully. Using heavy-duty straps, some clever maneuvering and a whole lot of Newtonian force, the team aligned everything perfectly—thanks in part to some quick-thinking and in-house laser cutting to create precision spacer rings. And when that poly finally seated onto the center with a seismic bang? Let’s just say it was music to everyone’s ears (that bang lets you know it’s fully seated on the cover).

This wheel isn’t just a flex. It’s a foundation. Stay tuned for next month, when we reveal what it’s rolling under—one of the largest trucks we’ve ever built! So consider this a sneak peak of a bigger story to come.

From our caster beginnings building casters for shoe racks in 1907 to supporting machines that move the world, Hamilton has always evolved to meet the moment. Today, that means handling parts that echo like drums, press together like titans and carry loads that defy expectations.

Big wheels keep on turning.
